October 2009 - West Babylon, NY - During a recent October morning, the Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) members donated their time to work alongside the Rebuilding Together Long Island team on two separate, but equally imperative projects. The first project was to build a ramp for a disabled woman in Valley Stream, making it possible for her to receive the medical attention that she needs; enabling her to come and go from her home with ease. The second was a landscape and outside cleanup project for a senile woman in Elmont who does not have the means or capability to care for her home herself.

The donation by LIBOR supports this year’s “We’re More Than Realtors®” campaign, which is spearheaded by the LIBOR Public Relations committee. “The efforts of our members prove that ‘We’re More Than Realtors®.’ We are thrilled to support the great achievements of organizations, such as Rebuilding Together Long Island, that are committed to help Long Island” said Buddy Hoosein, President of LIBOR. “We’re more than Realtors®. Our members know how important it is to be able to have our senior citizens, disabled residents and single parent families remain in their own homes, despite hardships they might encounter. The generous work of Rebuilding Together Long Island allows these homeowners to remain in their own homes in a safe and healthy environment and we support the efforts to ensure that takes place,” added Hoosein.

In addition to helping Rebuilding Together LI on these two projects, earlier this summer LIBOR donated $10,000 so the organization can fulfill its mission to help rebuild the homes and lives of people in need. Rebuilding Together Long Island is dedicated to restoring the homes of economically disadvantaged homeowners who are elderly, disabled, and/or single-parent families, so they may continue to live in comfort with dignity and independence. Their committed staff of 300 volunteers is the backbone of the organization. According to Sol Goldstein, “The generous contribution by LIBOR enables us to continue our efforts and help people in need. We provide a wide range of services which include plumbing and electrical repairs, yard work, tree trimming, gutter cleaning, carpentry, roof repair, trash removal, non cosmetic painting, lock work, smoke detector installation and the construction of wheel chair ramps. We are especially proud of our proficiency in building these ramps, which enable those people that are home-bound to enjoy their renewed freedom. All of the services of Rebuilding Long Island Together are provided at no cost to the homeowner thanks to generous contributions such as the one we have received from the Long Island Board of Realtors®.”
