In celebration of Earth Day and to commemorate their 100th Anniversary, the Long Island Board of REALTORS® Inc. (LIBOR) sponsored a Boy Scouts of America tree planting ceremony on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River. LIBOR supplied 100 trees, in honor of their centennial as well as the Boy Scouts of America, who also turn 100 this year. The trees were planted that day by hundreds of scouts and their families who attended this annual event hosted by the Boy Scouts of America. To mark the occasion, LIBOR had a tree planted in its name, along with a plaque, in front of the main meeting hall. There are thousands of families that visit this camp every season.

In continuing with Earth Day observance Boy Scouts from throughout the five boroughs have participated in conservation and community beautification projects across the city. The Greater New York Councils Boy Scouts of America partnered with MillionTreesNYC to plant nearly 20,000 trees in parks and open spaces across New York City as part of the one million trees to be planted over the next decade through MillionTreesNYC. LIBOR distributed seed packets to thousands of Boy Scouts in Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens, that will be planted this spring as well.

LIBOR is proud to affiliate ourselves with an organization like the Boy Scouts of America - whose goal is to build the character of young boys and men who then go on to become good citizens in our communities. For more information on the Boy Scouts of America’s Earth Day initiatives please visit www.trcbsa.org.

This worthy Earth Day donation was made through the Long Island Board of REALTORS® “We’re More Than REALTORS®…” initiative, which supports numerous programs and charitable community organizations. The “We’re More Than Realtors® campaign was created by the LIBOR Public Relations Committee. The campaign raises the public’s awareness about Realtors® and their philanthropic efforts within their communities.
