NYS Requirements for Licensing as a Salesperson

  • $50 (two years) license fee

For your convenience the Salesperson's Qualifying course is being offered in house as well as on-line. Instructor support and guidance is available whether you take the course online or in the Classroom.

75-hour NY Salesperson License Qualifying Course in New York

Long Island Board of Realtors Online Information & Policies as of January 1, 2013. Please read the following important course information prior to registering for this course. 

The tuition fee for the 75-hour online salesperson qualifying pre-license course is $325.

LIBOR Online School Policies

Course Completion3

Students who enroll must complete the course within one year from date of purchase. Any uncompleted course work after one year of purchase date is void and student would be subject to full tuition to reactivate and begin again.

Salesperson Pre-licensing Course = $150

Students must successfully complete this course by passing an onsite proctored exam at one of our 4 Realtor Service Centers with a minimum grade of 70%. The Long Island Board of Realtors® is required to report successful course completions to the Department of State, Division of Licensing in the state of NY prior to the student sitting for the New York state exam. Students will be required to sign an online course affidavit during their proctored final exam stating they solely have completed the online course and they are taking the final school exam.

Refunds

Prelicensing refunds are available up to fifteen (15) calendar days after the date of enrollment and a refund fee of $25 will be charged. No refunds or credits will be given thereafter.  Textbooks purchased as part of a package are non-refundable.

Students who register and pay for the online course may be able to review specific classroom based topic(s), subject to Director of Education approval. However, students who wish to completely transfer to a classroom delivery licensing course must do so within three (3) months of the purchase date and will be subject to an additional fee and schedule availability.  If you would like to transfer into a classroom course, you may also be required to purchase additional materials.  The textbook for the online course is different from the classroom course textbook and will cost an additional $25.

Supplemental Materials

Although a textbook is not required, you can purchase the course textbook for an additional fee of $40.00 at any of our Board Offices listed below. This online course is based on the textbook titled New York Real Estate Sales—The Complete Guide, 4th Edition. The Board offices also carry the NY Review Crammer for $20.00.

School Exam

The exam for this course is a proctored exam which means students must take the exam in person. The exam has 75 questions and students are given three hours to complete.  Students have a total of two (2) separate attempts to pass the school’s final exam; students failing the end of course exam a second time will be required to pay for and complete the entire course again should they wish to continue. 

Students will be required to bring a government issued picture ID to the proctored exam site. All exams must be administered by a proctor within the state of New York. The Long Island Board of Realtors offers the proctored final exam at the following locations:

The LIBOR proctored exam is separate from the State of New York Real Estate Salesperson exam, however, this NYS required course will not be considered completed until you pass the LIBOR course exam.

You can schedule a test date for the state exam by logging on to the Department of States website here, and creating an account.  This is also the Department of State's real estate management system where you will apply for your license and eventually renew your license.

Students must recognize that distance learning requires a great amount of motivation and dedication. In many cases students will find that distance learning is a more difficult method of study as compared to classroom based education.
