Carmen Cartagena has been working in real estate since 2004, 12 of those years as a Broker/Owner. Prior to working in real estate, Ms. Cartagena worked as Coordinator for Student Services for 15 years at the Columbia University School of Social Work where she provided academic services to students including conducting diversity training for incoming first year students.

In addition, Ms. Cartagena worked as a remedial teacher under the NYC Board of Education and Kaplan, Inc. teaching for the common core exam.

Ms. Cartagena received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in race and ethnicity in 2004 from Columbia University and in 2017 received a Master’s degree in Urban Affairs were she focused on community development, housing equality and housing affordability.

Ms. Cartagena’s interest in fair housing has led her to create a new fair housing course for REALTORS® which focuses on the current conflicts and complexities in adhering to fair housing regulations in their everyday practice. Ms. Cartagena is in her 2nd year as an elected MLS Zone 13 Director and is a licensed NYS real estate instructor and a NYS Notary Public.
