Governor Hochul Announces $650 Million Plan for Pro-Housing Local Governments

Last week, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul  launched her long-awaited “Pro-Housing Communities Program” to fast track $650 million in state discretionary funds to villages, towns, and counties who demonstrate a commitment to increasing housing inventory within their boundaries. “Pro-housing communities” will be given priority consideration over all other local governments for future allocations of state housing grants and economic development investments. State Senate and Assembly Democratic leaders, as well as local Republican elected officials, opposed Gov. Hochul’s plan earlier this year to mandate zoning changes on local communities who have previously resisted new housing construction. Learn more.
