In honor of National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 2025 REALTOR® Volunteer Days, Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) proudly partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Long Island (HFHLI) to help build an affordable home in Wyandanch, NY, for a deserving single mother and her two young children.
On May 14, 2025, in the pouring rain, dedicated LIBOR members joined HFHLI site supervisors on-site, lending their time and skills to assist with the framework on the newly installed walls. This hands-on effort reflects LIBOR’s continued commitment to promoting access to homeownership and supporting stronger, more resilient communities across Long Island.
“Giving back is part of who we are—as both professionals and neighbors,” said Mark Donnelly, LIBOR President. “Across the country, 70% of REALTORS® volunteer monthly in their communities. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Long Island gives our members a meaningful way to support the dream of homeownership and help those in need build better lives.”
NAR’s REALTOR® Volunteer Days, held this year from May 10–18, is a nationwide week of service encouraging REALTOR® associations, brokerages, and members to organize and participate in local volunteer efforts. The annual initiative is part of the REALTORS® Are Good Neighbors campaign, which highlights the positive impact REALTORS® make in their communities.
In addition to volunteer labor, LIBOR contributed $3,500 toward the construction of the new home. Since 2004, LIBOR has sponsored the building of 19 Habitat for Humanity homes across Long Island. LIBOR is proud to support HFHLI’s mission to promote long-term financial security for families by providing affordable housing that allows them to better meet essential needs such as food, healthcare, childcare, and education. Affordable homeownership is the key to building a foundation that allows residents, neighborhoods and entire communities to thrive.
Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. (LIBOR) is a not-for-profit trade association and the fourth-largest local REALTOR® board in the United States, with approximately 30,000 members. Since 1910, LIBOR has served real estate professionals in Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties seeking career advancement, community engagement, homeownership advocacy, and unwavering professional standards.
