REALTOR® Association Launches Latest Chapter in Its “Home for All of Us” Campaign
Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) today launched the next phase in its Home for All of Us fair housing campaign, this time addressing the REALTOR® commitment to ensuring LGBTQ+ people can choose where they live.
LIBOR is a 26,000-member, not-for-profit trade association that serves real estate professionals throughout Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. It is one of the largest local REALTOR® Boards in the United States.
“LIBOR and our REALTOR® members are committed to ensuring fair housing for all people, including the LGBTQ+ community,” said LIBOR CEO Doreen Spagnuolo. “REALTORS® must be agents of positive change in the housing market, and that is why we are adding to the resources we provide to help them deliver on the fair housing promise.”
The LGBTQ+ community is a growing market. LGBTQ+ individuals are more likely to be first-time home buyers (46% vs. 29%) and first-time home sellers (40% vs. 28%) than non-LGBTQ+ individuals, according to research by the National Association of REALTORS®.
“LGBTQ+ individuals have an outsized economic impact on Long Island, transforming communities — including Fire Island, Jackson Heights, and Freeport — and generating increased business activity,” added Spagnuolo.
LIBOR’s newly released resources include:
LIBOR launched its Home for All of Us campaign in 2022 and has produced resources to combat housing discrimination based on source of income, disabilities, and race and color. All LIBOR resources are available on the campaign website, and LIBOR is sharing them with government officials, community groups, and other stakeholders to advance the REALTOR® commitment to fair housing.
