LIBOR Sponsors Ronald McDonald House St. James Challenge, Helping Raise More Than $130,000 for Families in Need

May 12, 2026

Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) was proud to sponsor the third annual Ronald McDonald House Charities New York (RMHCNY) St. James 5 Mile Challenge & 5K Fun Run/Walk held on May 9, 2026, helping raise more than $130,000 to support the construction of a new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

More than 800 runners, walkers, families, and community supporters participated in the event, with 100% of proceeds benefiting Ronald McDonald House Long Island’s mission to provide comfort, care, and housing for families with children receiving critical medical treatment. The new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital will be the first of its kind in Suffolk County and is expected to open in late 2027.

LIBOR members and staff proudly participated as “Team LIBOR,” demonstrating the REALTOR® community’s continued commitment to giving back and supporting Long Island families during difficult times.

“LIBOR is honored to continue our long-standing partnership with Ronald McDonald House and support the incredible work they do for families across Long Island,” said LIBOR President Shaan Khan. “Every step taken at this event helped move this important project forward and will make a meaningful difference for families who need support and stability while caring for a hospitalized child.”

LIBOR has long supported RMHCNY, including funding two rooms at the organization’s New Hyde Park facility. This year’s event held special significance as Ronald McDonald House celebrates its 40th anniversary of serving families in need.

The St. James Challenge welcomed participants of all ages and fitness levels, offering both a timed 5-mile race and a 5K Fun Run/Walk along the scenic Cordwood Path. The event also featured a Vendor Village and Community Celebration, with appearances by Wolfie the Seawolf from Stony Brook University, Jimbo Jaws from the Long Island Aquarium, and live music from The Jazz Loft.

Currently under construction, the Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital will provide no-cost housing, meals, therapies, and 24/7 support services to hospitalized children and their families, helping keep loved ones close during medical treatment. The facility will join a global network of 395 Ronald McDonald Houses serving families worldwide.

LIBOR remains proud to support organizations and initiatives that strengthen communities and improve the lives of Long Island families.
