Governor Hochul Says State Will Not Force LI and Upstate to Shelter Asylum-Seekers

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been urging Governor Hochul to use state power to force counties throughout New York State to temporarily house newly arrived migrants and to identify sites outside New York City where they can receive initial shelter and processing. As buses dispatched by the governors of Texas and Florida continue to arrive in New York City, Gov. Kathy Hochul said she will not take executive actions to force Long Island and Upstate New York counties who have so far refused to accept asylum-seekers to do otherwise. Instead, Governor Hochul called on President Joe Biden to take executive action on the federal level and direct additional federal resources to her.  Learn more.
