Three Democratic Women Prepare to Replace Kevin Thomas in State Senate

“Thanks to redistricting, Kevin Thomas (D) no longer lives in the 6^th District and chose to vie for the 4^th Congressional District seat instead,” Newsday reported. The 6^th District includes Westbury, Carle Place, Uniondale, Hempstead Village, Roosevelt, Freeport, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Lakeview, West Hempstead, and Garden City. Both Assemblymember Taylor Darling (D-Hempstead, Uniondale, Roosevelt) and County Legislator Siela Bynoe (D-Westbury, New Cassel, Uniondale) have already declared their candidacies, and now it appears that former Freeport School Board president and Deputy Mayor Carmen Piñeyro (D) is ready to join the race. This district voted 68-32% for President Biden (D) over former President Trump (R) in 2020, and Thomas (D) won with 59% in 2022 over 41% for retired NYPD Det. James Coll (R).
