North Shore Democrats Line Up to Challenge Jack Martins for State Senate

Last week, the Nassau County Democratic Committee began screening candidates to take on Republican Jack Martins for the 7^th State Senate District, which includes most of the Town of North Hempstead, the City of Glen Cove, and the northern Town of Oyster Bay – including Jericho, Woodbury, and Syosset. Democratic candidates included former County Legislator Josh Lafazan, North Hempstead Housing Authority board member Kim Keiserman, former state legislative aide Zak Malamed, and Great Neck Library Board President Rory Lancman – a former New York City Councilmember and State Assemblymember from Queens. In 2020, this district voted 56% for President Biden (D) over 44% for former President Trump (R), but Martins won the seat back for Republicans in 2022 by defeating former State Senator Anna Kaplan (D) by 53-47%.
