State Senate 2024: Anker vs. Palumbo on East End, Chu vs. Stavisky in NE Queens

Feb 7, 2024

Significant challenges have emerged for two incumbent State Senators in our area. In eastern Suffolk, former long-time County Legislator Sarah Anker (D-Rocky Point) announced she will run for the 1st District State Senate seat held by  State Sen. Anthony Palumbo (R-Riverhead, East End), "arguing that, if elected, she would have an advantage in advocating for suburban issues as a member of the Democratic Senate majority,"  reported Newsday. In northeast Queens, education activist Yiatin Chu has filed to run against longtime  State Sen. Toby Stavisky (D-Whitestone, Floral Park, Jamaica Estates). "Chu’s entrance sets the stage for what could make for a competitive election ... Stavisky has defeated many challengers in her 25 years in office, but the district has voted increasingly for Republicans in recent years, as have Asian Americans in Queens, who make up more than 38 percent of Senate District 11,"  wrote the Queens Chronicle
