The Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation recommends the following minimum criteria for assistant, state licensed and state certified real property appraisers.

College: No college-level education is required
Education: 150 hours
Experience: 1000 hours over a period of not less than 24 months
Basic Appraisal Principles (R-5) (30 hours)

Experience: 1500 hours over a period of not less than 24 months. Residential experience must contain experience in residential single-family, residential multi-family, vacant lot or farm.
