Replacing Santos: Democrats Back Suozzi, Awaiting Republican Pick for Feb. Special Election

Dec 13, 2023

Democrats officially backed former U.S. House member and ex-Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi (D) to run in the Feb. 13 special election to replace disgraced ex-U.S. Rep. George Santos (R). Santos was expelled from Congress by a bipartisan supermajority for alleged federal crimes and misrepresenting his experience to voters last year. “In a special election, party bosses pick the candidates to fill the remainder of the term. Then there would still be the potential of a primary in June ahead of the November election for a full, two-year term starting in 2025,” reported Politico. Republicans have yet to announce their choice. Learn more about the possible candidates.
